The word "apologetics" comes from the Greek word "apologia" which means "speaking in defence". It literally means defending one's position against opposition through systematic information. In 1 Peter 3:15, Christians are commanded to ALWAYS be ready to give reason for the faith we have when we are asked (it also tells us to do so with gentleness and respect).
